Angi and Thumbtack leads worth it for painters?

Compare the terms and cost per booked painting job. Include the cost of your direct calls too, then decide whether more leads or a better reply process is the next step.

Buying leads and answering leads solve different problems. A paid channel can introduce homeowners who have never heard of you. Your phone, website and referral list need a clear reply process once those people get in touch. Count the cost and booked work from each before deciding where the next dollar goes.

Read the terms of the product you are buying

Do not assume every Angi or Thumbtack product uses the same sharing, billing or credit rules. Check your current offer. Ask when a charge happens, whether other painters receive the same request, which areas and job types you can choose, and what qualifies for a credit.

Angi complaints and Thumbtack reviews contain individual buyers' accounts. They can suggest questions to ask, but they do not establish a typical painter's result. Compare the actual offer and your own completed jobs.

Work out cost per booked painting job

For one channel over a fixed period, record what you spent, how many valid requests arrived, how many estimates you gave and how many jobs booked. Include time spent answering and chasing. Keep interior repaints separate from exterior projects if their prices, seasons or closing patterns differ.

Here is a made-up example to show the calculation, not a claim about either platform. Suppose 20 requests cost $40 each. That is $800. Four booked jobs make the lead fee $200 per job; two booked jobs make it $400. Add your answering time before comparing that cost with the gross profit on those jobs.

A channel with a higher lead price can still work if it brings suitable jobs at a cost your margin supports. Cheap requests outside your area or beyond your capacity can waste time. Keep enough records to tell those cases apart.

Direct leads have costs too

Your website, signs, review requests, advertising and referral work all take money or time. Count those costs over a useful period rather than calling a direct request free. A homeowner who calls you directly may still ask other painters for a quote.

Use the same steps for every source: valid request, estimate, booked job, completed job and payment. That prevents a busy inbox from looking like profit. The local marketing guide gives wider channel choices; use your own results to choose among them.

Fix a missed reply before buying more volume

Look at recent calls and messages. Did a homeowner ask about bedrooms while you were spraying? Did a promised estimate wait several days? Fix the exact step you can see. Use the missed-call text example, the price-question checklist, or the estimate follow-up list.

Paid leads may still make sense when you have spare capacity, a clear service area, terms you understand and records showing profitable work. If you cannot respond or take another job, more incoming requests may not be the next useful purchase.

What SvarKlar changes in this calculation

SvarKlar answers calls, texts back missed callers and handles incoming messages, within the tasks agreed with Frederik. It does not sell new leads or guarantee work. Estimate booking, approved price ranges and follow-up triggers need specific setup. Count its fee and your handoff time alongside the cost of bringing the customer to you.

For the role itself, read what an AI receptionist handles. Frederik sets up the agreed work and runs it; your painting quote, crew capacity and final start date remain your decisions.

Choose one channel and total last month's spend and booked jobs. Repeat with your direct requests. Those two records give you a better buying decision than either a glowing review or a bad one.

A call walks through your own inbound: where leads come in, what gets missed, and how SvarKlar would catch and book them. No pressure, no lock-in.
