ChatGPT is not a bad choice. It might already be the AI tool you open every day. The real difference is between typing into an assistant when you remember to, and having an employee who answers your customers whether you remember or not.
The honest case for ChatGPT
ChatGPT is one of the strongest general AI assistants available, used by millions of people and, by OpenAI's own count, over 5 million business users. The free plan costs nothing, and Plus is $20 a month. A 2026 Bluevine survey of small-business owners found 57% are already using ChatGPT, many of them on a free tier.
For writing a quote faster, drafting a text back to a customer, or researching a job, it works well right now. That part is not in dispute.
What ChatGPT is actually built for
OpenAI markets ChatGPT Business around internal work: operations, engineering, finance, marketing, sales, and data. It helps a team turn a goal into finished work, write and review code, and pull reports together. None of that is about answering a customer who just texted your business.
The individual plans, Free through Pro, add faster answers, more memory, and image or code tools as the price goes up. Every tier keeps the same shape: a chat window you open and type into.
What it does not do on its own
Nothing in ChatGPT's plan comparison lists call answering, texting, or booking, on any tier, at any price. If a customer calls your business number tonight, ChatGPT never hears it. If they text, it never sees it.
OpenAI does run 1-800-ChatGPT, a number you can call to talk to ChatGPT yourself, capped at 30 minutes a month for free. It is a way for you to reach ChatGPT. It is not a way for ChatGPT to answer calls made to your business.
The real cost is the setup, not the $20
The subscription is cheap. Making ChatGPT text back a missed caller means writing the prompt, wiring in an API or a tool like Zapier, and testing it, or paying someone who can. Plus and Pro add scheduled tasks and custom GPTs, but you are still the one building and maintaining them.
SvarKlar skips that step. Fred builds the setup for your shop, texts the missed caller back, answers the web form, and quotes the job. You keep running your business. He keeps the AI running.
Where ChatGPT fits
Pick ChatGPT if you or your team want a faster way to write, plan, or research, and you are fine being the one who opens the app each time. It is genuinely strong at that, and free or $20 a month is a fair price for it.
Where SvarKlar fits
Full disclosure, SvarKlar is what we sell: most lost jobs are not lost because nobody could write a good text back. They are lost because nobody answered in the ten minutes it took the caller to try the next shop. SvarKlar answers texts, web leads, and missed callers in seconds, every time, without you opening anything.
ChatGPT is a tool you run yourself. SvarKlar is an employee that runs on its own.
